How to read the ATR
The ATR is read in three steps.
1. Identify the regime
Check whether the ATR is trending (stuck at one extreme) or oscillating (moving cleanly between bounds). The interpretation changes between the two.
2. Look for extremes
Readings near the upper and lower bounds of the price-based range are the highest-signal events. Single prints are noise. Sustained readings are signal.
3. Check for divergence
If price makes a new high and the ATR does not, the move is exhausted. If price makes a new low and the ATR does not, the move is exhausted.
