AI Trading Plan Generator — Build Entry, Stop, and Target in Seconds

10 min read

AI Trading Plan Generator — Build Entry, Stop, and Target in Seconds#

A trading plan is the difference between gambling and trading. It answers three questions before you enter a position: where do I get in, where do I get out if I'm wrong, and where do I get out if I'm right?

Most traders skip this step. They see a chart they like, enter based on a gut feeling, and then figure out exits while the trade is running. This is the fastest way to lose money — you exit winners too early, hold losers too long, and have no framework for evaluating whether the trade was actually a good idea in hindsight.

An AI trading plan generator automates the hardest part: translating what you see on a chart into a structured, actionable plan with specific levels. Here's how they work and how to use one effectively.

What a Trading Plan Actually Contains#

A proper trading plan has five components, and every one of them should be written down before you enter a trade.

Direction. Are you buying or selling? This should be based on the trend, not a hunch. If the trend is up, you look for long setups. If it's down, you look for shorts. If it's sideways, you wait.

Entry zone. A price range where you'll open the position. Not a single price — a zone. The market rarely gives you an exact fill at your ideal entry, so a zone gives you flexibility.

Stop-loss level. The price at which you close the trade and accept the loss. This is your invalidation point — where the trade thesis stops being valid. Every trade needs one before you enter.

Take-profit targets. At least two levels. The first target (where you take partial profits) should be conservative. The second should let the trade run if momentum continues.

Risk amount. How much of your account you're risking on this trade. This determines position size. The standard is 1–2% of account equity per trade.

How AI Generates a Trading Plan#

An AI trading plan generator like TradingLens works from a single chart screenshot. Here's what happens under the hood.

1. Structure Detection#

The AI first reads the chart's structure: trend direction, key support and resistance levels, recent swing highs and lows, and the overall market regime (trending, ranging, or reversing). This forms the foundation for every decision that follows.

2. Level Identification#

Support and resistance levels are identified algorithmically. The AI looks for price levels where the market has reversed multiple times, clustered volumes, and areas where price consolidated before breaking out. Each level gets a confidence score based on how many touches and how clean the reactions were.

Fibonacci retracement levels are drawn from the most recent significant swing. The 0.618 and 0.786 retracement levels are typically the most relevant for entries in trending markets.

Order blocks and fair value gaps are mapped — these are zones where institutional orders cluster and where price tends to react.

3. Indicator Confirmation#

The AI reads RSI and MACD from the chart image to assess momentum and potential divergences. If RSI is above 70, the AI notes that the asset is overbought — a pullback is likely before another leg up in a strong trend. If MACD is crossing bullish with rising histogram bars, momentum supports the long direction.

4. Scenario Construction#

Based on the structure and levels, the AI builds two scenarios:

Bullish case. What needs to happen for the trade to work: price holds support, RSI bounces from oversold or consolidates in overbought without diverging, volume confirms the move. Probability estimate: 55–75% depending on confluence.

Bearish case. What would invalidate the trade: price breaks below support, RSI divergence appears, volume dries up. Every good trading plan includes the bearish case — it forces you to think about what you'll do if you're wrong.

5. Structured Trade Plan Generation#

Finally, the AI outputs a structured trading plan with:

  • Entry zone — A price range derived from support levels, order blocks, or Fibonacci retracements
  • Stop-loss level — Placed below the nearest reliable support (for longs) or above the nearest resistance (for shorts), calibrated to the asset's current ATR so it's wide enough to avoid noise
  • Take-profit target 1 — The first significant resistance level above entry (for longs), typically where 50% of the position is closed
  • Take-profit target 2 — A further target allowing the remainder to run

Example Walkthrough: Apple (AAPL) on the Daily#

Let's walk through a real example using TradingLens to generate a trading plan for AAPL on the daily timeframe.

The Chart#

A daily AAPL chart shows price in an uptrend — higher highs and higher lows over the last 3 months. The most recent move pulled back to a prior resistance-turned-support level around $185 and is now bouncing.

The AI Output#

Trend: Bullish (confidence: 78%). Price is above the 50 and 200 SMAs. Most recent swing low is higher than the prior swing low.

Key Levels:

  • Support: $185.20 (prior resistance, now support — 4 touches, high confidence)
  • Major support: $178.50 (prior swing low, 3 touches)
  • Resistance: $198.40 (recent high, 2 touches — watch for breakout)
  • Major resistance: $210.00 (prior high, 2 touches)

Indicators: RSI at 54 — neutral, room to run. MACD histogram turning positive — early momentum shift.

Bullish Scenario (65%): Price holds $185 support and continues the trend toward $198. A break above $198 targets $210.

Bearish Scenario (35%): Price breaks below $185 on volume, invalidating the trend structure. Next support at $178.50.

Trading Plan:

  • Direction: Long
  • Entry zone: $185.50–$187.00 (buy on pullback to support)
  • Stop-loss: $182.50 (below $185 support, with ATR buffer of ~$2.50)
  • Target 1: $198.00 (prior high — 50% of position)
  • Target 2: $209.00 (major resistance — 50% of position)
  • Risk: $3 per share on entry near $185.50 = ~1.6% risk
  • Reward (full target): $23.50 per share = ~12.7% at target 2
  • Risk:Reward: ~1:7 full, ~1:4 at target 1 alone

What This Gives You#

In about 7 seconds, you have a complete trade plan with specific levels, a risk:reward ratio, and invalidation criteria. You can decide whether to take the trade in under a minute instead of spending 20–30 minutes drawing levels manually.

The AI doesn't make the decision for you — it structures the information so you can decide faster and with more clarity.

Integrating the AI Plan with Your Risk Framework#

An AI-generated plan is a starting point. Before executing, layer your own risk framework on top. Use the Risk Reward Calculator to verify that your planned entry, stop, and target give you a favourable risk-reward ratio.

Position Sizing#

The AI plan tells you the stop distance in price terms. Convert that to position size:

Position Size = (Account Risk %) / (Stop Distance as % of Entry)

If you risk 1% of a $10,000 account on a trade with a 1.6% stop distance from entry: $100 / 1.6% = $6,250 position size. This ensures every trade risks the same percentage regardless of the setup.

Timeframe Alignment#

A daily chart plan is for swing trades lasting 1–7 days. Don't take a daily-level entry with a 30-minute exit plan. Match your holding period to the timeframe you analysed. If you want to scalp, analyse the 5-minute or 15-minute chart. If you're swinging, use daily or 4H.

Correlation Check#

Before entering, check whether you already have open positions in correlated assets. If you're long AAPL and already long QQQ, you're effectively doubling down on tech exposure. AI plans don't account for portfolio correlation — that's your job.

News Filter#

AI analyses the chart, not the news. Before executing, spend 30 seconds checking if there's a catalyst on the horizon — earnings, economic data, or a Fed decision. A technically perfect setup can (and will) fail on news you didn't check.

When to Trust the AI Plan vs When to Override#

AI trading plan generators are powerful, but they're not infallible. Here's when to trust the output and when to question it.

Trust the AI When:#

  • The chart is clean and recent (last 3–6 months of clear data)
  • Multiple confluence factors align (support + RSI bounce + MACD turn + volume)
  • The risk:reward ratio is favourable (2:1 or better)
  • The asset has decent liquidity and the stop level has room for normal volatility

Question or Override When:#

  • The chart shows an unusual formation (gaps, weird candlestick patterns from data glitches)
  • There's a major catalyst soon (earnings within 48 hours, Fed decision, product launch)
  • The asset is extremely low volume (penny stocks, low-cap altcoins — slippage will be significant)
  • The AI's levels don't align with obvious structural levels on the chart (always trust visible structure over algorithm output)

Never Ignore:#

  • Daily or weekly structure. If the daily trend is strongly down and the AI gives you a long setup from a 15-minute chart, the daily trend wins.
  • Your own experience. AI is a tool — your judgment based on experience and context is the final filter.

Common Mistakes with AI Trading Plans#

Treating the Plan as a Signal#

The AI plan is not a "buy" or "sell" signal — it's a structured breakdown of what the chart shows. The decision to trade is still yours. An AI plan for a chart that looks great might be a terrible trade if you don't have the risk capacity, the time to manage it, or conviction in the asset.

Ignoring the Bearish Scenario#

The bearish case isn't filler — it's your risk management blueprint. If you read only the bullish case and enter, you haven't planned for failure. The bearish scenario tells you exactly when to admit you're wrong. Write that level down before you enter.

Overtrading with AI Speed#

Because AI generates plans in seconds, there's a temptation to analyse 20 charts and take 5 trades. That's the opposite of what you want. Use the speed to be more selective, not less. Analyse 20 charts, find the one with the best confluence, and trade that.

Not Adjusting for Your Timeframe#

A plan generated from a daily chart is not actionable on a 5-minute chart. The levels are different, the noise is different, and the risk profile is different. Always match your execution timeframe to your analysis timeframe.

Building Your AI Trading Plan Routine#

The fastest path to consistent results is a repeatable routine. Here's a three-minute pre-trade routine using an AI trading plan generator:

  1. Capture (30 seconds) — Screenshot your chart from TradingView or your broker. Clean chart, visible levels, visible volume.
  2. Analyse (10 seconds) — Upload to TradingLens and wait for the AI output.
  3. Validate (60 seconds) — Check the AI's levels against your own read. Does support at $185 look right? Does the stop level give enough room? Check news for any catalyst in the next 48 hours.
  4. Size (30 seconds) — Calculate position size based on stop distance and your account risk %.
  5. Set alerts (30 seconds) — Place alerts at entry zone, stop, and target levels in your broker or charting platform.
  6. Execute or walk (20 seconds) — Either place the limit order or save the plan for later reference.

The entire routine — from seeing a chart to having a complete, sized, and alerted trade plan — takes about 3 minutes with an AI generator. Without one, the same process takes 20–30 minutes and produces less consistent results.
